A vote

Sam or Hutch?
My sister-in-law Robyn is a natural at nicknames. They just roll off her tongue. They always sound cute and perfect and fun. Weird as it may sound I have a hard time saying nicknames. It's just not natural for me. I love the nickname Hutch since Hutchison is his middle name, it sounds cool and fun, and he certainly looks more like my side than Jackson. Whenever I try to say it though it sounds awkward. like I'm re-naming him or something. Can a kid be called two names? I love them both and can't decide.

As a side note--I love this age. so cute. everything goes in his mouth. always drooly. just a fun baby age.

I think you should do both. I was always Jenny to my family and close family friends, but Jennifer at school. I still love being called both. I think Hutch is adorable, and it fits him.
Let us know what you decide!

We are really too much alike. I have the same trouble with nicknames. We always imagined calling Isaac Ike, but it seemed strange to me to call him anything except Isaac when I was talking to him and now if you call him Ike, he'll tell you that's not his name. So I have no vote. I would probably just keep calling him Sam because I'm much like you.

Not sure which one I like but yeah you can call him both!

I love the glistening of the drool on his chest. Awesome!

Of course, perhaps nicknames have their down side. Yesterday Nicholas was walking through the room and I said, "Hey Nico!" and he said, "I'm not Nico, I'm Neeksle-T!" Don't ask how I got from Nicholas to Neeksle-T. What have I done?

That being said, I learned nicknamery at my mother's knee and I had about a million nicknames. And I liked it. Also, one of my nicknames was Bosco (for Robbie Bosco the BYU quarterback) and so I think there's room for a non-first-name derivative. And Hutch is a classic.

Follow your gut though...whatever feels natural to you. Because oddly enough Neeksle-T does feel natural to me! (What is wrong with me?)

Nothing says Hutch more than slobber running down your face. :)

I know some others who go by Hutch so maybe you should stick with Sam. I mean Hutch....love the picture of you with both boys!

Chris and I have SO many different names that we call our kids...especially Sydney. It is not anything I really think about it just happens. I don't think you should try to use a nickname unless it just happens. For instance...we have gotten in the habit of calling our kids sister (or sissy) and brother. Not planned-just happened.
